The Cobb County Sheriff's Office proudly celebrated its latest Parenting 101 Graduation on Tuesday, June 11th, at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, 1825 County Services Parkway, Marietta, GA.

The Parenting 101 graduation ceremony was a heartfelt event, celebrating the achievements of 10 dedicated individuals. The ceremony commenced with a warm welcome and introduction of guests and graduates by Dr. J. Sebastian Anderson, instructor of the ‘Parenting 101’ and ‘Anger Management’ classes. The atmosphere was filled with a sense of accomplishment and anticipation as the graduates, having completed the comprehensive parenting program, prepared to receive their well-deserved recognition.

Parenting 101 & Anger Management Classes

  • Duration: 6-week program

  • Frequency: Meet twice a week

  • Session Length: 2 hours per session

  • Completion: Certificate of completion provided

If these classes are mandated as part of a detainee's sentence, they can attend the programs for free while in custody. However, if they choose to attend after being released, they will need to pay for the classes.

Special presentations highlighted the journey of each graduate, showcasing their growth and commitment to becoming better parents. Cpt. Aaron Jenkins, Sgt. Randall Finney, and Dr.  Anderson led the certificate presentation. Cpt. Jenkins delivered words of encouragement, emphasizing the importance of their achievements and the potential for positive change in their families. Following Jenkins, Sheriff Craig Owens shared an inspiring message he recently received at church about weathering the storm, encouraging the graduates to remain steadfast and resilient in the face of challenges. The ceremony concluded with closing remarks from Col. Michael A. Williams, the division commander over ADC operations, who congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to apply the skills and knowledge they had gained. He particularly highlighted their potential to become better fathers, underlining the positive ripple effect this would have on their children and the broader community. The event was a powerful reminder of the transformative potential of educational programs within the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, providing hope and new beginnings for the graduates.
