Empowered Voices, Shared Stories — Cobb Sheriff Hosts 2nd Annual Women’s History Month Symposium
On Friday, March 28th, the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office proudly hosted its 2nd Annual Women’s History Month Symposium. The theme “Her Story is Our Story” brought together trailblazing women, thought leaders, and community members for a powerful day of reflection, resilience, and connection.
The symposium opened with a heartfelt welcome from Randi Okray, award-winning media personality and Communications and Public Relations Specialist for the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, who also emceed the event. Her warmth and energy set the tone for a day centered on unity, empowerment, and inspiration.
County Manager Dr. Jackie R. McMorris and Sheriff Craig D. Owens, Sr. delivered opening remarks highlighting the importance of celebrating women’s leadership and the power of sharing personal stories.
Throughout the day, attendees participated in health and wellness exercises, education, and intentional opportunities to reset and refocus. Wellness breaks were led by Deputy Leticia Parris, a member of the Advanced Training Unit, and Jenea McCammon, the Fitness Coordinator for the Cobb County Sheriff's Office, who guided the group through breathing and mindfulness exercises—offering moments to recharge both mentally and physically.
Chief Janeé Harteau (Retired Chief of Police - Minneapolis PD) captivated the room with her keynote, “Shift Happens: Mastering Life’s Pivot Points,” where she encouraged attendees to embrace change and lead with courage through life’s transitions.
Lieutenant Kellie Renfro and Officer Jennifer Atherton, both of the Dallas Police Department, led a powerful session titled “Get Over Yourself and Make a Difference,” where they shared an honest and uplifting conversation that urged attendees to step into their purpose and use their voices to create real impact.
The afternoon featured a moving panel discussion, “What Part of Her Story is Your Story?” Moderated by Assistant Chief Deputy Gina V. Hawkins (Cobb County Sheriff's Office), the panel included Chief Janet Moon (Chief of Police - Peachtree City), Chief Mirtha V. Ramos (Retired Chief of Police - Dekalb PD), Chief Debra Williams (Chief of Police - Clark Atlanta University), and Nikki Glanton (Vice President of Communications and Public Affairs - Atlanta Police Foundation). Each panelist shared heartfelt personal experiences, creating an atmosphere of vulnerability, strength, and sisterhood.
Closing remarks by Chief Deputy Rhonda Anderson (Cobb County Sheriff's Office) and Asst. Chief Hawkins tied the day together with a call to continue championing one another, building bridges, and writing the next chapter—together.
The 2nd Annual Women’s History Month Symposium wasn’t just a gathering—it was a movement. A day of inspiration and affirmation that every woman’s story matters. And when we listen, uplift, and empower one another, her story becomes our story.
Additionally, a total of 3 POST credit hours were awarded to attendees who participated in the symposium, further emphasizing the commitment to both professional growth and personal development.
