Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Hosts Final GED and Parenting 101 Graduation Ceremony of 2024
On Nov.21, 2024, the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office celebrated its final GED and Parenting 101 graduation ceremony of the year, recognizing the achievements of detainees committed to self-improvement and rehabilitation. Held inside the Adult Detention Facility, the ceremony marked a significant milestone in the Sheriff’s Office's ongoing efforts to reduce recidivism and provide detainees with resources to rebuild their lives.
In collaboration with the Anderson Training Institute and Bank of America, the Parenting 101 program equips participants with nurturing and relationship-building tools to strengthen family bonds. The program also incorporates Bank of America’s financial literacy training to help participants improve their financial planning skills. The GED program offers detainees an educational foundation, opening doors to future job opportunities and stability.
A standout moment of the ceremony came when a detainee from the Parenting 101 class delivered a heartfelt speech dedicated to his children, leaving not a dry eye in the room. The emotional address highlighted the transformative impact of the program and the participants’ commitment to creating brighter futures for themselves and their families.
All graduates received certifications and commemorative photos to mark their accomplishments, followed by a celebration with light bites and cake to conclude the event.
This year, 25 participants graduated from the GED program, with additional testing still underway, and 46 participants completed the Parenting 101 program. These programs not only prepare detainees for successful reintegration into society but also aim to break the cycle of recidivism, benefiting the broader community.
The Cobb County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to detainee rehabilitation, with more program graduations planned for 2025, continuing to inspire positive change and brighter futures.
