Cobb County Sheriff's Office Pins New Leaders at Latest Promotion Ceremony

Cobb County Sheriff's Office Pins New Leaders at Latest Promotion Ceremony

On Aug. 29, 2024, the Cobb County Sheriff's Office held its latest pinning ceremony, a time-honored tradition recognizing the dedication and accomplishments of our law enforcement professionals. Surrounded by family, friends, and colleagues, several deputies and officers were celebrated for their promotions, achievements, and commitment to serving the Cobb County community.

Captain Yaminah Holt led the ceremony, emphasizing the importance of leadership, integrity, and service in law enforcement. “Each pin represents more than just a rank,” Holt stated. “It signifies the responsibility and trust placed in our deputies to uphold the safety and well-being of our community.”

Among those honored were Lieutenant Colonel Stacey Bains, promoted from major; Captain Sylvia Robinson, promoted from lieutenant; Lieutenant Anthony Poss, promoted from sergeant; and Sergeant Jeremiah Lignitz, promoted from deputy.

These individuals were recognized for their outstanding performance and contributions to the department. Each received their new badges, symbolizing their readiness to take on greater responsibilities within the Sheriff's Office.

The ceremony also celebrated the significance of those who performed the pinning, adding a personal touch to the event:

- Lieutenant Colonel Bains was pinned by her father, Peter McGivney.

- Captain Robinson was pinned by her mentor, Chief Deputy Temetriis Atkins.

- Lieutenant Poss was pinned by his wife, Misty Poss.

- Sergeant Lignitz was pinned by his wife, Jennifer Lignitz, and his son, Jackson.

Sheriff Craig Owens personally showed each family member how to pin their loved one who had been promoted, adding a meaningful connection to the ceremony. Chief Deputy Rhonda Anderson presented each officer with their credentials and badge, while Assistant Chief Gina Hawkins awarded them their certificates, marking their official promotion.

To conclude the Pinning Ceremony, attendees participated in a receiving line, a tradition introduced to the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office under Sheriff Owens’ administration. The receiving line serves to usher the most newly promoted supervisors into the supervisory ranks, symbolizing their official induction and the support they will receive from their colleagues as they step into their new roles.
