Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Celebrates New Class of Construction Ready Graduates
More than 20 detainees received Construction Ready training in 2024
The Cobb County Sheriff's Office proudly celebrated its second Construction Ready graduation of 2024 on Friday, Dec.6 at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
The event highlighted the achievements of eight graduates—five women and three men—who successfully completed this rigorous month-long program.
Graduates earned certifications in critical areas, including NCCER Core, OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR/AED, Fall Protection Competent Person, Hilti Powder Actuated Tools, Hilti Laser, Forklift Awareness, and ATSSA Utility Flagger.
The ceremony, a collaborative effort by the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office, Worksource Cobb/CobbWorks, and Construction Ready, commenced with a warm welcome presented by Johnny Hughes, vice president of training and development for Construction Ready. Sonya Grant, executive director of Cobb Workforce Development and president/CEO of CobbWorks, Inc., delivered the greetings. Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Chief of Staff David Jones then shared insights about the program in the Adult Detention Center and highlighted that since the first graduation in June of this year, which included a class of 13, a total of 21 detainees have successfully completed the program in 2024.
Daniel Jean-Baptiste, the instructor for Construction Ready, addressed the students with words of encouragement. Following his speech, each graduate was called up to receive their certificate. The event concluded with photos and light bites, marking a celebratory close to a momentous occasion.
According to Construction Ready, 97% of graduates are matched with employers during training. New construction workers with no experience can expect to earn $14 to $20 per hour in their first construction job. Within three to six months, most of these workers should enjoy an increase in their hourly wage.
