Cobb County Sheriff's Office Celebrates Another Milestone: 13 Female Detainees Graduate from Parenting 101 and Anger Management Programs

The Cobb County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) proudly celebrated its latest Parenting 101 and Anger Management Graduation on Thursday, June 20, at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, 1825 County Services Parkway, Marietta, GA. The graduation ceremony was a heartfelt event, celebrating the achievements of 13 dedicated female detainees. The ceremony kicked off with a friendly greeting from Col. Michael A. Williams, division commander of the ADC, creating a vibe of achievement and excitement as the graduates, all done with their programs, geared up to get their well-earned recognition.

Parenting 101 & Anger Management Classes:

- Duration: 6-week program

- Frequency: Meet twice a week

- Session Length: 2 hours per session

- Completion: Certificate of completion provided

Both programs are provided for free if mandated as part of a detainee's sentence. However, graduates may continue to attend after release at their own expense.

Dep. Tonya McClendon delivered the opening remarks, followed by Counselor Christina Saliba, who spoke about the significance of the occasion. In the women’s Anger Management class, Counselor Saliba emphasized that it's okay to be angry, challenging societal norms that often discourage women from expressing anger. She taught the students different ways to cope with and release their anger in more productive ways.

The atmosphere was filled with a sense of pride as Col. Williams and Counselor Saliba led the certificate presentation, highlighting the personal growth and commitment of each graduate.

Capt. Aaron Jenkins shared words of wisdom, emphasizing the importance of their achievements and the potential for positive change in their families.

The ceremony concluded with closing remarks from Col. Williams, who congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to apply the skills and knowledge they had gained. Following him, Chief of Staff David Jones addressed the graduates, expressing his pride in their accomplishments. Randi Okray, communications specialist with the CCSO, spoke about how these programs are making a difference and inspiring others, highlighting that despite their circumstances, the graduates have shown that it is possible to emerge better and stronger.

The event displayed the positive impact these programs have on the lives of female detainees, helping them build a better future for themselves and their families.
